Improve communication with parents

A new service from Dutch Language House Brussels for child day-care centres.

Dutch language day-care centres in Brussels don't just have clients who speak Dutch. Many parents and children speak another language at home. Some parents have little Dutch, and some staff members have difficulty with foreign languages. The day-care centre therefore has to balance respect for the language spoken at home, the Dutch language character of the centre itself, happy colleagues and the best prospects for every child. Dutch Language House is here to help. Together with the advisor from Dutch Language House Brussels, child day-care centres adjust their use of language. Simpler Dutch where it can, a contact language where necessary and, in any case, clear agreements on language ensure that good communication with all parents is guaranteed. This service is provided as part of the ‘Groeien in Taal' [Growth in Language] project.
