The CAEs and the CBE use a modular system, whereby the process of learning Dutch consists of different modules.

A module at a CAE consists of 120 hours on average. When a student opts for an intensive Dutch language module (4 times a week), such a module takes two months (about 10 weeks). A course given once a week takes a full academic year. In diagram form:

The CBE offers only beginner’s modules that last longer. The CBE also offers courses for people who must still learn to read and write in the Latin alphabet (Analfi). CBE Brusselleer works with waiting lists. The Dutch Language House informs the school that the student wishes to learn Dutch. Candidate students are then notified when the course starts. This overview will give you an idea of the levels of Dutch that the student can attain.
