Proof of knowledge of Dutch for an application for Belgian nationality

Do you want to apply for Belgian citizenship? To do so you need to prove how good your Dutch is. The minimum standard is A2.

What test can you take at the Dutch Language House?

This is a computer test that covers your reading, listening, speaking and writing. The test takes two half days.
You start with reading and listening. This part takes half a day. If this is too difficult, the test will be ended without a pass.
If your reading and listening test is okay, you will be given an appointment for the speaking and writing test.

Pre-screening interview

If you are unsure whether you have the required level, you can do a pre-screening interview.

Practice test

You can also take a practice test (instruction in Dutch only):

  • Enter your name
  • Enter your email address
  • Where it says school, write: Huis van het Nederlands Brussel

The practise test shows how the test works. The level of Dutch is not representative of the level of the actual test.

Procedure

You can find more information about the procedure on the Agentschap Integratie en Inburgering’s website (only available in Dutch).

See also the test rules and instructions (only available in Dutch).
