The Brussels House's Cornerstone one carries out the same task that has been assigned to the other Dutch Language Houses elsewhere in Flanders: ensuring a centralised intake of prospective students and adjusting the supply of Dutch language courses to the demand.
During the NT2 (Dutch as a second language) Round table conference in May 2002 various policy recommendations were made, such as creating a "central authority" to guarantee an objective referral of NT2 prospective students. The Dutch Language House of Brussels was set up on 1 September 2003 and the aforementioned task was carried out by Cornerstone one, thanks to the resources of the Flemish Community's Ministry of Inegration policy.
The first Cornerstone is the House's most visible component. After more than two years the Dutch Language House of Brussels has already tested and streamed over 16000 students. The consultations between the various language institutes are becoming increasingly intense and effective.
