 | | | General background
The Dutch Language House of Brussels is unique. The task assigned to the Dutch Language Houses elsewhere in Flanders (coordinating the range of Dutch language courses) is amplified in Brussels with a further two Cornerstones.
The House's Cornerstone 2 is involved in intrinsic quality support for Dutch language courses, Dutch language support and Dutch language stimulation in Brussels.
This Cornerstone is in fact the House's oldest component. A start was made with the support of the Flemish Community Commission in the year 2000, with a series of projects to lend support to training and employment initiatives for low-skilled people as part of the approach targeted on non-first-language speakers of Dutch, a category that is constantly growing in size. The projects were implemented by a team from the Catholic University of Leuven. The efforts have been stepped up in recent years and adopted as a key component of its activities since the creation of the Dutch Language House.
In the meantime, we are in the process of extending and developing the initiatives. More and more partners are gradually being involved and we are operating in a variety of fields. We may have an opportunity soon to make a contribution to your organisation as well.
