Dutch in the shopping streets

“Goeiedag, bonjour!” [Good morning]

People like to shop in their own language. Shopkeepers are well aware of this and want to do something about it. The Dutch Language House of Brussels supports them with the following initiatives:

  • We run promotional campaigns to stimulate sales staff to help their Dutch-speaking customers in their own language.
  • Sales staff who wish to practice their Dutch vocabulary and syntax can use the pocket dictionary Prêt à Parler [Ready to Talk]. Produced exclusively for the retail sector, this pocket dictionary is sold for €2.50. You can download it free of charge or order it here.
  • Are you a shopkeeper and are you looking for solutions to your staff’s knowledge of Dutch? We would be glad to provide customised language advice for your shop. Click here for more information.
