Plonge: the city game to discover Dutch in Brussels

Plonge is a free and interactive online city game for Brussels residents aged 16 and over. Delve into Dutch and experience action and adventure in the city. You get to visit fun places and discover everything the Dutch language has to offer in Brussels. You do need to know a little bit of Dutch to play the game.

Play in a group

Do your students or participants enjoy an action-packed challenge? The game invites small teams to follow routes that include various Brussels attractions, with a view to exploring the Dutch language. Participants complete a challenge at each location to earn points. One team is declared the winner at the end. 

Practicalities

  • The city game is free.
  • Each participant requires a smartphone with an Internet connection.
  • Each route has a set distance and duration. You get to choose which route to play. Single player routes take 1 to 1.5 hours to play. Group routes take an average of 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Minimum number of participants: 1
  • Maximum number of participants: 50

How do you play the game?

The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible. There are a number of questions and challenges along the route. You win points by completing a challenge.

Single player?

Take your own smartphone and follow the route alone or together with a friend. Follow the route to the end. At the end, you can compare your score with other Brussels residents who have played the game. 

Group player?

Groups are divided into teams of 3 to 5 participants. Each participant uses his/​her own smartphone. The game moderator creates a new game and compiles the teams in advance.

You follow the route and complete the challenges, together with your team. All team members can answer on behalf of the team, giving everyone the chance to take an active part. The team receives points for each challenge. The team with the highest number of points at the end of the game is declared the group winner!

How much Dutch do you need to know to play the game?

You do need to know a little bit of Dutch. The challenges are all in Dutch. The routes are divided into levels: language icons indicate how much Dutch you need to know. Choose a route that is designed for the language level of the participants. The information and registration pages for starting the game are available in Dutch, French and English.

Do I need to download the app on my smartphone?

No, you don’t need to download an app. You can use the Plonge web application by navigating to game​.plonge​.be.
