Dutch language certification tests

Do you need a certificate to demonstrate your knowledge of Dutch?

For a number of certificates you can take a test at the Dutch Language House, Brussels. 

If you pass, you receive the certificate.

These certification tests are chargeable, except for the language tests for parents who want to register their children in a Dutch-speaking school or crèche. You pay 90€ for the oral part and 90€ for the written part.

Parents who want to register their children in a Dutch-speaking school or crèche van book a test here.

You can take the following certification tests at the Dutch Language House, Brussels:

  • Dutch language test priority scheme for day-care centre or for secondary, primary and nursery education (free of charge)
  • Proof of Dutch knowledge for housing code (chargeable)
  • Proof of Dutch knowledge for childcare workers and managers of day-care centres (chargeable)
  • Proof of Dutch knowledge for nationality applications (chargeable)
  • Dutch exemption test for civic integration (first test free of charge under certain conditions, then chargeable)
  • Proof of Dutch knowledge for training as a social interpreter (chargeable)
  • Proof of Dutch knowledge for public administration staff (chargeable)
  • Proof of Dutch knowledge for teaching staff (chargeable)
  • Proof of Dutch knowledge for prospective students (chargeable)

File an appeal

If you are dissatisfied with the procedure or the result of a certification test, you can file an appeal free of charge. All necessary information can be found on the Agentschap Integratie en Inburgering’s website. This website only exists in Dutch. Do not hesitate to send an email to civielattest@​huisnederlandsbrussel.​be for information in English.
